Looking for a weekend getaway from Istanbul? Or relaxing stay away from the big and crowded hotels at the Turkish sea? Head to Alacati near Izmir and stay at the ever so charming Tas Otel.
I picked Tas Otel for our extended weekend stay in Alacati because I absolutely love small boutique hotels with a unique style. Tas Otel is located at the center of Alacati and consists of one main house, a pool and garden area as well as a quaint little garden house. There is also a small and large villa that are situated right next to the hotel.

Why: Tas Otel is the oldest boutique hotel in Alacati, a place that charms its guest with adorable character and a warming hospitality.
Tas Otel’s owner Zeynep designed and decorated every little corner of the hotel herself. The romantic and rustic style goes well with the region’s flair. Alacati is characterized by old stone houses with wooden doors and pastel-hued windows. Tas Otel and its bright but comforting interior, azur pool and lush green garden fits perfectly into that scene. Except, there are no crowds. Where Alacati can feel busy and overcrowded at times, Tas Otel is an oasis of tranquility.
Minutes before we arrived at the hotel I realised that I had forgotten my laptop on the plane. Despite my inner hectic, the welcome was calm and friendly. Salih, the manager of the hotel, immediately offered to help and arranged a transport of my laptop from the airport to the hotel. The rest of the check-in went smooth, our room beautiful and light, the ideal safe haven after a stressful arrival. And so we could finally start our mini vacation. We immediately felt a million miles away from Istanbul. The soothing smell of lavender, the relaxing music, the gentle staff – everything made this stay a peaceful few days for body and soul.
One of the many great things at Tas Otel is its daily (complimentary) afternoon tea at the pool. The cakes are freshly baked every day by the hotel’s chef Emine. And with your stay at Tas Otel comes a baking book with recipes of all the tasty afternoon treats. What a lovely idea! It is also Emine who prepares a delicious breakfast buffet of homemade jams, fresh fruits, local cheeses and crispy bread every morning. Tas Otel is the boutique hotel for the effortless traveler who enjoys a dip in the pool, reading a book in the garden and nibbling on some amazing food. But Tas Otel is more than just a hotel – it’s an oasis away from all the hustle and bustle, it’s the perfect place to unwind.

1 – Book room 6 or 7 with a wonderful view of the green garden and lush pool.
2 – Look out for the hotel’s cats and give them a big cuddle. If you come at the right time of the year you might find some kittens.
3 – Ask for a second slice of afternoon tea cake if you are super hungry. Or just love the cake so much.
4 – Order salad for lunch in the garden and enjoy a huge bowl of fresh greens, seasonal vegetables and local cheese.
