Let me get right to the point: Soma Bay is the best place to stay in Egypt. Considering that you like the beach, some sun, crystal clear water and relaxation, there is no finer destination at the Red Sea. Soma Bay is surrounded on all sides by the sea and thus perfect for all kinds of water activities. The best part, it’s an exclusive holiday resort destination in Egypt and not as overrun by tourist groups like Sharm El Sheik or Hurghada. And even though Soma Bay is located on a remote peninsula there is not reason to get bored .
How to have the best time in Soma Bay
Coming to Soma Bay (or for that matter to the Red Sea), I thought I had seen beautiful beaches. But this place was beyond my exceptions. Not necessarily because of the beach itself but more so because of the water landscape. The colors are vibrant (think purple, turquoise and bright green), the fishes outshine the cast of ‘Finding Nemo’ and you might even spot a big turtle making its way through the sea. There is no denying, the minute you arrive in Soma Bay it is best to put on a mask and snorkel away.
Relax at the beach
Well, I’ll be honest. I’m not really a sun worshipper. But I love to chill outside in the shade on some nice lounge chair, listen to the quietness and read a good book. If you also like to have a peaceful time and are not so fond of loud chatter, restaurant noise and background music, Soma Bay and its few resorts are very idyllic.
Visit the Spa
Looking back at my wellness experiences so far I’ve been wondering if there has been a favorite one. The kind of Spa that delivers on all fronts. A leading contestant so far is the Cascade Spa & Thalasso in Soma Bay. Aside from the beautiful architecture and interior design, the Spa has all the lurks and purks that one would expect for a reasonable price range. The main area features a seawater pool, Thalasso and sauna landscape. And the massages are outstanding.
Stroll the promenade with ice cream
If you (like me) love to take long walks but don’t find the time during the week or surrounding in your neighbourhood at home (I live in Cairo, there are no walkways), your holidays in Soma Bay will make up for it. Stretching a few kilometers along the coast, the promenade passes by various resorts. So treat yourself to some ice cream after a long day of snorkeling and get strolling.
Have a great lunch
Where is the best place to have lunch in Soma Bay? Dine alfresco and enjoy panoramas of the golf course at the L’ Albatross Restaurant at La Résidence des Cascades. The meals are deliciously fresh made with local produce and come with great service.
Go for a morning jog
Trying to stay fit while travelling does not always come easy. Not every hotel has a gym or not every place offers an attractive and pleasant jogging path. Soma Bay has the latter. There is an established running trail that runs along the waterfront and between resorts. It’s very popular in the morning before temperatures are getting too hot. Or do a sunset jog in the evening. Either way, the scenery is priceless.
