Don’t say I didn’t warn you but once you created your first healthy granola recipe you probably won’t like the store-bought version anymore. Before I started making my own granola I thought that it was time consuming and that I would spend lots of money to buy the right ingredients. But granola is such a versatile food that it’s your decision if you want to add fancy ingredients. Another great thing about granola is that you can take it with you wherever you go. If you want to avoid the sweet and often artificial hotel granola, just store some of your homemade granola in an airtight container and pack it in your luggage. Or you can take a jar with you to work.
I love to eat my granola for breakfast with fresh fruits and almond milk or coconut yoghurt. It’s also amazing as a topping for an afternoon smoothie or ice cream. This granola recipe is so good that I have to make a new batch every other day because we literally inhale it at home. And of course it’s really healthy, too. The mix is made without refined sugar and lots of nutritious seeds and oats. Give it a try!
How To Create Your Own Quick Healthy Granola Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup of oats
1 cup of spelt flakes (you can also use another cup of oats)
1 cup of puffed amaranth
1/4 cup of sunflower seeds
1/4 cup of sesame seeds
1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds
3-4 tablespoons of coconut oil
2-3 tablespoons of honey (maple or date syrup are just as great)
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
Basically, you can add any kind of seeds, nuts, oats or even dried fruits. Just make sure you use more honey and coconut oil if you add more ingredients. I recommend to use 1 tablespoon of coconut oil per 1 cup of dry ingredient.
Method
Preheat the oven to 200°C.
Place oats, flakes, amaranth and seeds in a large mixing bowl and stir well.
Add the honey and coconut oil into a saucepan and heat it up. Don’t let it cook for too long, just enough so you have a liquid substance.
Combine all ingredients (wet and dry) in a mixing bowl and mix well.
Spread the mix in a thin layer on a baking sheet and bake for 10 min or until lightly toasted.
Cool before serving or storing.
If you like you can now add some shredded coconut, goji berries or nuts. Be creative 🙂
